Fort Myers Fishing Report

The wind has really been blowing here, and it seems that the cold fronts just want quit passing through our area. Fishing has been a little on the tough side. Most of the trips I have done lately have been in 25 mph plus winds, you really have to work hard to produce under these conditions. We still managed to catch fish but nothing spectacular to speak of. <br />

Last week I fished with Frank S. and his wife from Pennsylvania. Frank is involved with Tri County Trout Club in Kensington Pa. and wanted to come down and give it a try in saltwater. The wind just wouldn't let up enough for Frank to work his Fly rod. We caught a few fish, but it was slim with the front moving through. It was a slow, but we did manage some fairly good action at the end of the day and Frank and his wife got to feel the power of a couple of snook, some nice jacks and few nice trout. It would have been nice to see it on his fly rod but the wind never died down. We will give it another shot Frank when your down again. I had the pleasure of fishing with Jack L. from Kentucky. this week and his friend Doug, Jack scheduled two trips the fist trip was on a Wednesday we had to postpone until Thursday because of the wind. We decided to go on Thursday but the wind was still blowing at 20 mph, and we just could not get the fish to cooperate, couple of decent jacks and some small trout. On Saturday Jack's wife joined us and the weather could not have been more perfect, however the front that passed through must have given the fish lock jaw, I could see them but I just could get them to bite, we caught fish but nothing to write home about and Doug did manage to catch a couple of small snook at the end of are trip. Sorry Jack, we will get them next time. You, Maddie and Doug are great people I hope to see you this fall and get a chance to redeem myself. It was a real pleasure and I enjoyed your company. <br />

Sunday we had another perfect day as far as the weather, and I fished with Troy Stavely, Form Lakeland, FL, if you in need of a great electrician Troy owns Maintenance Services based out of Lakeland his company does work all over the state of Florida specializing in commercial and industrial work 1-800-417-6714, I recommend him highly. We did a half day flats trip and the fishing was still a little slow but had picked up from the day before and we managed a nice 32 inch snook and a lot of shorts. Great catch Troy and it was good seeing you again. <br />

Redfish are still a little scarce but some small ones are be caught on the east wall of the harbor and in Pine Island Sound. Snook are just not sure if they should be on the flats are back in the warmer waters of the rivers, the water temperature is sill in high 60's to lower 70's and when it starts to warm up a little the cold fronts just keep showing up and pushing things back. The last two fronts even slowed the Sea trout down and I couldn't seem to find any of the bigger fish. Hopefully things will get better as the weather goes, it's just not normal to see the kind of winter we have had. On a good note I heard some Tarpon are being taken up in the harbor by the bridges at night. If they are it's a good sign the weather is going to turn around, I'll know for sure cause I be going this week. <br />
